SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for the treatment of liquids. System for treating a feed stream comprising hydrocarbons and an aqueous-based liquid, includes a vessel containing a feed inlet fiuidly connected to the feed stream, and a treated stream outlet in communication with a treated stream, and a filtration layer disposed within the vessel, comprising a first layer of a filter media disposed a second layer of the filter media . At least the first layer comprises a plurality of particles of a composite material, wherein each of the plurality of particles of the composite material comprises a mixture of a cellulose-based material and a polymer. Filtration media of the second layer has a characteristic different from that of the first layer, wherein the characteristic is selected from a group consisting of the type of filter media, the relative density, the density and the particle size. Method for treating the feed stream comprises introducing a stream into the vessel and bringing the stream into the contact with the first layer of the filtration media and then with the second layer of filtration media to obtain a treated stream having a hydrocarbon concentration that is less than the concentration of hydrocarbons in the feed stream.
EFFECT: technical result: increasing the efficiency of the feed stream processing.
