SUBSTANCE: tampon applicator is provided that is sensitive to water (for example, water soluble, water dispersible, etc.) in the sense that it loses its integrity over time in presence of water. Tampon applicator comprises molded thermoplastic composition comprising a cellulose derivative, a synthetic water-soluble polymer and a plasticizer. Necessary characteristics of the water sensitivity of the tampon applicator can be achieved in the present invention by selectively regulating a plurality of aspects of the thermoplastic composition, from which applicator is molded, such as nature of the components used, the relative amount of each component, the method by which the composition is made, and so on.
EFFECT: tampon applicator can be privately disposed of in toilet without risk of clogging the sewer pipes.
