SUBSTANCE: tampon applicator can be privately disposed of in the toilet without the risk of clogging the sewer pipes. The tampon applicator includes a moulded thermoplastic composition comprising at least one partially hydrolyzed polyvinyl alcohol, a plasticiser. The necessary characteristics of the water sensitivity of the tampon applicator can be achieved in the present invention by selectively regulating a plurality of aspects of the thermoplastic composition from which the applicator is moulded, such as the nature of the components used, the relative amount of each component, the method by which the composition is made, etc.
EFFECT: tampon applicator is sensitive to water, it loses its integrity over time in the presence of water.
