FIELD: measurement technology.
SUBSTANCE: technical area: detecting temporally varying thermomechanical stresses and/or stress gradients over the wall thickness of metal bodies, in particular pipelines. Summary of this invention consists in measuring temperature on the external surface of the body in order to determine on its basis the temperature sequence and stress sequence. In addition, electromagnetic ultrasonic transducers are used in at least one measurement point on the outer surface to determine the change in stresses and/or stress gradients over time along the wall thickness of the body together with the result of temperature measurement.
EFFECT: ensuring the possibility to monitor fatigue of pipelines in the event of rapid stress changes.
