FIELD: tobacco industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method and device for detecting rotated segments in a multi-segment rod movable in a machine used in tobacco manufacturing. Method of detecting rotated segments having a length close to their diameter, in a continuous multi-segment rod movable in a machine used in tobacco manufacturing includes generating a shape error signal of said continuous multi-segment rod (CR1, CR1'), the stem (CR1, CR1') comprises a plurality of segments (2, 3, 4) arranged one behind the other in a common wrapper, the stem (CR1, CR1'), which is moved in the direction along its axis, is simultaneously scanned by means of at least two linear optical sensors (5) that the scanning plane is perpendicular to the axis of the rod (CR1, CR1'), the scanning directions of two optical sensors (5) are oriented at an angle of 40° to 60° to each other and the scanning planes of sensors (5') are substantially coplanar, while measuring the diameter of the rod (CR1, CR1') by repeated scans at such a frequency that the shortest segment of the rod (CR1, CR1') is scanned at least once, compare the results of the scans with a predetermined reference value and each discrepancy between any of the scan results and a predetermined value is converted into a shape error signal.
EFFECT: it is a technical result of the invention to provide a method and device for quickly and reliably detecting rotated segments so that detection occurs independently of the direction of rotation of the segments.
