FIELD: tobacco industry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of detecting turned segments in a non-wound row of segments, transported one after another in a machine used in the tobacco industry, wherein said method includes using a radiation source for illumination of segments and a radiation receiver reflected by segments, wherein said method further includes generating, by means of a monitoring unit, an error signal in the case of a turned segment, wherein the transported row of segments is illuminated with a laser beam such that on each segment its light profile is formed, wherein image of said light profile is recorded by radiation receiver, and light profile formed on each segment is compared to given reference profile by means of analyzing unit and an error signal is generated in each case when the difference between the detected light profile and said reference profile is detected.
EFFECT: technical result consists in enabling rejection of rods containing turned elements.
