FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an apparatus, method and catalyst for the purification of a gaseous raw hydrocarbon from hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans. Apparatus comprises a catalytic reactor filled with a solution of an oxidation catalyst for hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans in an organic solvent, which converts at least 99.99 % of hydrogen sulphide and mercaptans into sulfur and disulfides, means for supplying the purified gaseous raw hydrocarbon and oxygen-containing gas to the reactor, means for removing the purified gas from the reactor, device for removing the sulfur solution from the reactor, and sulfur separation unit. Catalyst is 0.0001–100 % solution of a mixture of iron and/or copper chlorides, amine and amide, taken in the ratio of 1:20–1:0.1, in alcohol. Invention provides a one-stage purification of gaseous hydrocarbons simultaneously from hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans to a residual content of -SH down to 0.001 ppm in the absence of toxic waste.
