FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for reducing chromium-containing material. Method comprises combining chromium containing material comprising chromium oxide with a carbonaceous reductant to form a chromium containing mixture; while providing an increase in its internal porosity and a decrease in density by bonding to the internal melting substance and/or agglomerates of the chromium-containing mixture are formed in the form of extruded elements with at least one opening of an elongated shape. Chromium-containing mixture is fed to a moving hearth furnace and reduced form a reduced chromium-containing mixture, which is fed into a smelting furnace, and the reduced chromium-containing mixture is separated into chromium metal and slag. Method also includes agglomerating the chromium-containing mixture in a granulator. Chromium-containing mixture has an average particle size of less than about 75 mcm.
EFFECT: invention provides improved heat transfer and release of gases from extruded elements, preventing their re-oxidation.
