SUBSTANCE: invention relates to navigation. Device and method for detecting obstacles is intended to equip an engine moving parallel to the reference plane and comprises: three horizontal emitters of electromagnetic beams passing in three virtual planes; three image sensors designed to cover the field. First image sensor is configured to cover a field intended to intersect with a first virtual plane that forms an angular sector about the X axis. Second horizontal radiator of the second horizontal beam passes in the second virtual plane in the first direction forming an angular sector about the Y axis perpendicular to the axis X, and substantially parallel to the reference plane. Third horizontal radiator of the third horizontal beam extends in the third virtual plane in the second direction opposite to the first direction forming an angular sector about the Y axis substantially parallel to the reference plane. There is also an image analysis means configured to detect the presence of an obstacle by detecting the presence of an image on the detection surface.

EFFECT: ensuring the possibility of detecting obstacles in the environment and preventing collisions with obstacles.
