FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an ammonia removing process from a continuous flue gas stream from an urea production plant, in particular from an urea production plant medium pressure section. Method includes removing of ammonia from a continuous flue gas stream by a controlled combustion method comprising a combustion stage under oxygen deficiency carried out in the presence of a sub-stoichiometric amount of oxygen acting as a single ignitor, and under hydrogen-containing reducing atmosphere in order to promote the ammonia oxidation to nitrogen and to hinder and greatly reduce the formation of nitrogen oxides, while ammonia is oxidized, and in which the waste gas stream for purification contains passivating oxygen and the passivating oxygen used in the urea production plant and already present in the continuous stream of waste gas for purification is used to remove ammonia during the combustion stage.

EFFECT: invention provides for reducing and preferably eliminating ammonia emissions from the urea production plant.
