FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to chemistry, specifically to a method and apparatus for producing elementary sulphur from feed gas and sulphuric acid. Method includes stages a-g. At step a), a Claus reaction furnace feed stream containing from 15 to 100 vol.% of H2S, a sub-stoichiometric amount of oxygen and, optionally, a fuel stream is introduced. At step b), a Claus reaction furnace feed stream is fed into a reaction furnace section operating at elevated temperature, for example above 900 °C. At step c), the product of the reaction furnace section and the flow of sulphuric acid are fed into the sulphuric acid evaporation section downstream of the reaction furnace section, thus providing the feed gas for the Claus converter. Then, at step d), the feed gas for the Claus converter is cooled to provide a cooled feed gas for the Claus converter, and optionally, removal of elementary sulphur from the gas. At step e) cooled feed gas for Claus converter is supplied for contact with Claus reaction catalyst, at step f) residual Claus reaction gas and elemental sulphur are removed, optionally cooling the effluent from the catalytically active substance in the Claus reaction and at step g), directing the stream containing the residual Claus reaction gas to treat the residual Claus reaction gas.
EFFECT: providing a method of converting H2S into elementary sulphur with high efficiency, which consists in intensive decomposition of impurities, reduced additional dependence of the process on fuel and reduced cooling as a result of evaporation of sulphuric acid.
