FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to reforming of hydrocarbons. A process for producing synthesis gas for ammonia synthesis involves the conversion of the hydrocarbon source into the raw synthesis gas which is carried out using a catalytic autothermal steam reforming or using non-catalytic partial oxidation of steam without primary reforming stage in the presence of an oxidant such as oxygen or oxygen-enriched air, treatment of raw synthesis gas by water gas shift, which includes the medium-temperature conversion at 200-300°C (thus the converted syngas is obtained), cleanup of converted synthesis gas, which comprises pressure swing adsorption stage to remove residual carbon oxides and methane from synthesis gas (wherein purified synthesis gas is obtained), optional adding of nitrogen into purified synthesis gas (wherein synthesis gas is obtained for synthesis of ammonia with the required ratio of hydrogen and nitrogen) and conversion of hydrocarbon source into raw synthesis gas, which is done in autothermal steam reformer or in partial oxidation reactor (wherein the ratio of steam to carbon in the reactor feed stream is less than 2).
EFFECT: invention provides highly profitable and large-scale production of ammonia.
