SUBSTANCE: invention relates to wireless communication systems and describes a method performed by a network node for administering the transmission of Cell Reference Symbols, CRS, wherein the network node 110 operates one or more cells and the network node 110 is configured to transmit the CRS in the first bandwidth mode. When the network node 110 identifies a cell 130 that does not actively serve any UE 120, also referred to as an empty cell, the network node 110 applies (302) the reduced bandwidth mode of the CRS in the first cell 130 with respect to the first mode of the bandwidth.

EFFECT: by applying the reduced CRS bandwidth mode (302) in the empty cell 130, the common CRS interference from the empty cell 130 is reduced, thereby improving the efficiency in the cells serving the active UE 120.
