FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method for preparation of water-soluble propargyl esters of arabinogalactan polysaccharide for use in chemistry, biology, and medicine. Method involves the reaction of arabinogalactan with propargyl bromide in a two-phase system: an aqueous potassium hydroxide-toluene solution in presence of a TEABACH phase transfer catalyst at room temperature. Reaction is carried out under conditions of molar ratios of KOH/propargyl bromide/arabinogalactan unit 1.2–1.5/4.1/1 for 6–18 hours. Desired product is recovered from the aqueous layer by evaporation and drying in vacuo. Further purification is carried out by dissolution in dimethylsulfoxide and precipitation in ethyl alcohol. Invention allows to perform the process under mild conditions and to obtain previously unknown water-soluble propargyl esters of arabinogalactan with a degree of substitution of 0.4–1.1.
EFFECT: implementation of the method under mild conditions.
