FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: signal processing method includes: calculating the gradient field of the image; setting the step of the change in the displacement and the set of orientation angles; summing the values of the projection of the gradient to the perpendicular to the current straight line along all straight lines determined by a possible displacement within the image; presenting the summation results as the second two-dimensional image; random selecting the direction of traversal of the second image along the coordinate corresponding to the offset; forming, based on the second image, the third image in which the intensity of each pixel is calculated as the sum of all the pixels of the second image; expanding the third image followed by blurring and trimming to the original dimensions; calculating the location of local extrema of the third image, having the property that one of the coordinates of the location of the extremum determines the displacement of the straight line passing along the extended object, and the other coordinate is the orientation angle of this line.

EFFECT: providing the detection and evaluation of the thickness of rectilinear extended objects in the image.
