FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the separation of iodine isotopes and can be used for the preparation of isotopically enriched iodine, as well as for the disposal of radioactive waste. Method of laser separation of iodine isotopes includes irradiation of iodine vapor (I2) by resonant infrared radiation with a wavelength of 47.62 mcm, subsequent exposure to strong laser radiation with a radiation range of optical or infrared and an intensity of more than 3×1013 W/cm2 and extraction of the formed positive ions, and the time between the effects of resonant infrared and laser radiation should not exceed the decay time of the vibrational state I2.
EFFECT: invention provides an increase in the efficiency of the isolation of iodine isotopes by laser radiation.
