SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the measurement of muzzle velocity of the projectile. Method of measurement of muzzle velocity is that the time of passage of the gage length by the projectile is measured, then the muzzle velocity is calculated. Method and apparatus for muzzle velocity measurement are characterized in that a periodic structure of a magnetic powder is applied to the outer surface of the gun, the time sequences of signals corresponding to the passed segments of the periodic structure are measured, the velocities of the passage of the periodic structure elements by the projectile are calculated, the average muzzle velocity is determined and the dispersion is determined, over which the projectile velocity is corrected.

EFFECT: increase in the non-contact measurement of the projectile velocity is achieved.
