SUBSTANCE: present invention is related to transmission device that enables a service for the distribution of a multi-image arrangement to be performed. It is proposed that the transmitting side transmits the container in a predetermined format, said container including encoded image data for a multiple images pertaining to the multi-image arrangement distribution service and having a predetermined number of video streams. Position information indicating the position of the arrangement of the multiple images is inserted into the video stream layer. Receiving side receives and decodes a predetermined number of video streams, thereby obtaining image data for a multiple images. Image data for the multiple images is arranged based on the position information, thereby obtaining image data for the group image (the image, a multi-image arrangement image).
