SUBSTANCE: inventions relate to moving platform (20) with safety device (25) in an elevator shaft and to a corresponding method of fixing moving platform (20) in the elevator. Moving platform (20) preferably comprises a fully equipped machine space, which is arranged in a so-called "co-growing" elevator, herewith moving platform (20) is vertically mounted in the shaft along guides (23) to be movable. In order to fix moving platform (20) when moving, safety device (25) comprises at least one catching device (26), which is located on moving platform (20) and which, if necessary, can be engaged with guide (23). Located on moving platform (20) locking mechanism (28) interacting with safety element (27, 27a) located along the path of travel, if necessary, can actuate catching device (26) of moving platform (20) together with a catching brake system suspended on movable platform (20) of the cabin and, thus, block the possible downward movement.
