FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for the preparation of a metal chloride Mx+Clx-, in which a metal carbonate as a solid is converted into a reaction with a chlorinating agent to form a metal chloride Mx+Clx-, wherein the metal M is selected from the group of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, Al and Zn, while "x" corresponds to the valency of the metal cation, and as the reagent is additionally added a metal which is different from or corresponds to metal M of the metal carbonate. Invention also relates to an apparatus for carrying out a method.
EFFECT: proposed method is more energy efficient.
