SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in chemical industry. Metal chloride Mx+Clx- is produced by reacting a metal carbonate as a solid with phosgene, diphosgene and/or triphosgene. Metal M is selected from the group of alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, Al and Zn, "x" corresponds to the valence of the metal cation.
EFFECT: as a reagent, a metal is added which is different from or corresponds to the metal M of the carbonate.
