SUBSTANCE: invention relates to thermophotovoltaic micron gap technology. Layered device for maintaining the submicron gap and low temperature of the cold side of a photovoltaic collector of a thermophotovoltaic cell, comprising a layered device comprising a substrate with a hot side separated from the cold side of the photovoltaic cell by a submicron gap, maintained by liners, a folding heat sink disposed between the cold side of the photovoltaic cell and a compression layer, and a flat rigid plate, located between the compression layer and a support mechanism; layered device is placed inside a housing; the hot side of the substrate and the support mechanism, supported in a rigid arrangement relative to each other by the housing.

EFFECT: compressive force maintained by the support mechanism on the layers inside the housing between the hot side of the substrate and the support mechanism, to maintain the same submicron gap and optimum thermal conductivity between the photovoltaic cell and the folding heat sink.
