FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a toner obtained by the emulsion aggregation (EA) method used in electrophotography. EA toner contains an amorphous polymer resin, optionally a dye and a low molecular weight crystalline organic compound from the group of aromatic ethers of formula R1-O-[(CH2)2O]P-R2, where R1 and R2 – alkyl, arylalkyl, alkylaryl, an aromatic group, and where at least one of R1 and R2 is an aromatic group, p is 0 or 1. Mixture of an amorphous polymeric resin and said crystalline compound is characterised by a reduction in the glass transition temperature relative to the glass transition temperature of the amorphous polymer resin and the absence of a significant peak in the transition from the solid to the liquid phase of said crystalline compound, as determined by differential scanning calorimetry. Measured enthalpy of fusion of said crystalline compound included in the mixture is less than 10% of the enthalpy of fusion of the pure crystalline compound.
EFFECT: invention provides an EA toner with improved minimum fusing temperature (MFT) characteristics when fused with folding and, accordingly, a reduction in power consumption for the fuser.
