FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a coating composition comprising a microgel. Coating composition containing a microgel does not contain bisphenol A. In the composition, the microgel is prepared by mixing a carboxyl functional polymer and a hybrid crosslinker system and inverting the mixture in water, wherein the hybrid crosslinker system comprises: a) a first crosslinker comprising an epoxy resin; and b) a second crosslinker, a thermally active crosslinker capable of crosslinking the coating at heating temperatures in the range of 120°C to 275°C. Second crosslinker comprises a phenolic compound which is a reaction product between a phenol or a substituted phenol and formaldehyde, urea-formaldehyde, an oxazoline compound, a blocked isocyanate, a melamine compound or a mixture of said compounds. Microgel is formed by the reaction of the carboxyl groups of the carboxyl functional polymer and the first crosslinker. Also disclosed is a substrate coated with said coating composition.
EFFECT: technical result is the coating film exhibits good adhesion, hardness, impact resistance, chemical resistance.
