SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the relay protection and automation of the distribution networks. Summary: the phase voltages and currents at the feeder input are observed. In the feeder transmission model the observed values are converted into the phase voltages and at least one reference current at the suppose short circuit arbitrary location. Comparing the signs of each converted voltage and the corresponding reference current. Selecting six types of time intervals: the first and the second signs coincidence intervals and the four non-coincidence intervals. Selecting six types of time intervals depending on the signs of the converted voltage and the corresponding reference current. Separating the single-phase short circuit process observation time into three parts. First part is defined as the sum of the intervals of the first and second types, the second part is as the sum of the intervals of the third and the fifth type, third is as the sum of the intervals of the fourth and sixth types. Generating a two-dimensional signal, which elements are defined as the relationship of the second and third parts to the first part. Setting the two-dimensional signal existence region on a plane. During the feeder observation, generating the two-dimensional signals for different places of the alleged fault and determining the range of possible values of the feeder fault location coordinate as a set of coordinates of those places of alleged faults, which two-dimensional signals are displayed in a given area.
EFFECT: technical result: simplification of the method and expansion of its functional capabilities.
