SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the purification of internal combustion engine exhaust gases. Silencer (1) for the exhaust system of the internal combustion engine with body (2) has shell (5) with Helmholtz resonator (11), equipped with resonating chamber (12) and resonating tube (13). Resonating chamber (12) is bounded radially by shell (5) and axially by intermediate bottom (7). Resonating tube (13) passes through intermediate bottom (7) and is fixed on it in the axial direction by means of joint (15) with a form and/or force closure. It is proposed to equip resonating tube (13) in resonating chamber (12) with outer tube (24), enclosing terminating section (25) of resonating tube (13) and closed at end (26) which faces away from intermediate bottom (7). Resonating tube (13) is in fluid communication with resonating chamber (12) through intermediate space (27), formed in the radial position between outer tube (24) and resonating tube (13).
EFFECT: proposed design will increase the length of resonating tube (13).
