SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for heat and mass transfer. Liquid flow distributor comprises a central distribution member comprising at least one inlet for receiving a liquid stream and one or more liquid outlets for discharging a portion of said liquid stream from said central distribution member; a plurality of elongated side members configured to receive at least a portion of the liquid discharged from said liquid outlets of said central distribution member; a plurality of distribution troughs positioned proximate said elongated side members, wherein each of said distribution troughs comprises a pair of elongated sidewalls, laterally spaced from one another to define a liquid receiving space therebetween, and a substantially opened bottom portion therebetween; and two or more sheets of structured packing material disposed in each of the receiving spaces, to improve the horizontal distribution of the liquid when it is received by the liquid receiving space and before it is discharged from the distribution trough through the bottom portion. Each of said two or more sheets of structured packing material forms a lower edge for the dripping of droplets of said liquid. Mass exchange column comprises an outer shell defining an open internal volume; a mass transfer bed positioned within said open internal volume and having an upper surface; and a liquid distributor. In the column, a method for treating a liquid flow is carried out.
