FIELD: nuclear engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nuclear engineering, in particular to spent nuclear fuel (SNF) storage facilities, and can be used at nuclear power plants (NPPs). Method of SNF disposal includes drilling a well to form a SNF decay cavity and placing containers containing SNF assemblies therein. Well drilling is carried out under the reactor building of the nuclear power plant. SNF decay cavity is formed of a lower part formed of a drilled well, and an upper part, which is formed in the reactor building of the nuclear power plant. Drilling of a well and construction of a cavity of the required depth for the placement and holding of SNF are performed during the construction of the nuclear power plant. Upper part of the decay cavity is made with the possibility of reloading the SNF assemblies from the reactor; after reactor shutdown, SNF assemblies are transferred from the reactor to the decay cavity, placed in a container, after which the container is lowered into the lower part of the decay cavity.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to increase the safety of operation of the nuclear power plant.
