FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in obtaining a coagulant for water purification, in the medical and perfumery industry. Basic aluminium chloride is obtained by reacting an aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid with metallic aluminium ingots at an elevated temperature with periodic cooling with water. Process of dissolution in hydrochloric acid and the hydrolysis of aluminium chloride are carried out in a single reactor. Hydrochloric acid is used at a concentration of 34-36%, and metallic aluminium - with an apparent density of 2.7 t/m3 and an aluminium content of 99.1-99.8%. In the reactor, ingots of metallic aluminium are laid in the form of a shaft with a void at its centre. Then 40-60% of water from the volume of the reactor is poured into the reactor. After this, hydrochloric acid is fed every 30-90 min, with 1 portion is 30-80%, the second and subsequent portions - 10-40% of the total volume. In the case of a sharp increase in the reaction speed and the threat of release of the reaction mass from the reactor, 2-10% of cold water from the total volume of water is fed into it. When the reaction mass reaches a temperature above 82 °C it is cooled through a cooling jacket or through a heat exchanger with cold water. During the synthesis, the temperature in the reactor is maintained in the range 86-96 °C. During the reaction, the density of the reaction mass is monitored.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to reduce the operating costs for the production of basic aluminium chloride by 10-15%, to increase the purity of the finished product.
