FIELD: various technological processes; chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the technology of producing coagulants and can be used in the production of coagulants for purifying drinking water, water in pools, contaminated domestic and industrial waste water and in other technological production processes requiring water treatment by coagulation. Method of producing a coagulant for purifying water consists in treating aluminium with 12% hydrochloric acid, wherein 12% hydrochloric acid in amount of 85 wt.% and aluminium in amount of 15 wt.% are introduced into the reactor in stages. Hydrochloric acid solution in amount of 40 wt.% and aluminium in amount of 5 wt.% of the total amount of the loaded components are loaded into the reactor. Upon reaching the specified pH values of the reaction product, density and amount of the basic substance, the following portions of the solution of hydrochloric acid and aluminium are added. Completion of the process when the density of product is 1.32±0.1 g/ml, pH 3.5±0.1 and content of basic substance 18% in terms of Al2O3.

EFFECT: obtaining highly basic aluminium hydroxochloride, which provides a high degree of purification of waste water with low consumption of the reagent.
