FIELD: pulp industry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of manufacturing a paper product having improved printing characteristics. Method includes the steps of preparing an aqueous slurry comprising a mixture of cellulose fibers and water and removing water from the aqueous slurry to create a fibrous substrate. Surface coating is then applied to the fibrous substrate. In this case, the surface coating is carried out with a water-based composition containing expanded cellulose fibers to form a treated fibrous substrate. Next, the treated fibrous substrate is dried to create paper products. In this case, the cellulosic fibers with increased area contain refined cellulosic fibers of hardwood with a weight average fiber length of at least 0.3mm, and an average hydrodynamic specific surface area of at least 10m2/g.

EFFECT: provides increased surface strength of paper products with a reduced content of starch.
