FIELD: geology.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to geology and can be used in search for hydrocarbon deposits in shelf area. According to proposed method of searching hydrocarbon deposits in water areas to identify anomalies, found on seismic and electrical survey data, in addition to profile, bottom stations with ion-selective electrodes are installed, selectively reacting to ions of heavy metals (Cu, Pb and Cd), whose anomalies in absence of interfering ions (Ag and Hg) point on connection with hydrocarbon pool and indicate anomalies of increased frequency absorption of seismic waves in seismic structures and reduced conductivity and/or polarizability, that are spatially correlated with anomalies of heavy metal ions and had not lost this correlation during certain periods of daily monitoring. All selected anomalies are combined and in form and location of anomalies relative to seismic structures hydrocarbon pool is delineated.

EFFECT: technical result is increase in reliability of anomalies identification and, accordingly, reliability of detection of hydrocarbon deposits in shelf area.
