FIELD: oil and gas industry.
SUBSTANCE: exploration of offshore oil and gas deposits employs the effect of heavy metal concentration anomalies over the said deposits, where trace elements of the said metals move from the region of the deposit onto the surface of the sea bed. Chemical analysis of seawater samples collected in the area of the anomalies confirms that the content of the said elements significantly exceeds the background content by 3-80 times. The presented theoretical and experimental data enable to make a conclusion on the possibility of a continuous study of the concentration of heavy metals in the seawater using ion-selective electrodes which selectively respond to certain metals. Silver and mercury anomalies are interfering factors and appropriate adjustments must be made.
EFFECT: high accuracy of obtained data.
