FIELD: medicine.
SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medical equipment, particularly to drug delivery devices, and specifically to systems for detecting whether the infusion device is connected to the patient during the primary filling of the reservoir and the infusion line of the device. In accordance with a first embodiment, the medical infusion system comprises an infusion set, an infusion set connector, at least two connector contacts in the connector, an infusion line, at least two electric wires contained within the infusion line or connected thereto, a Luer connector attached to the infusion line; at least two contacts of the infusion line located proximally to the Luer connector. Infusion set comprises an adhesive patch, an upper housing attached to the adhesive patch, and a separator extending from the upper housing. Connector of the infusion set can be detachably connected to the upper housing. At least two connector contacts in the connector are pre-biased to form electrical connection with each other when the connector is not connected to the upper housing. Infusion line comprises a flexible tube that attaches to the connector. Each of said at least two electric wires is electrically connected to one of the at least two connector contacts. Moreover, when the connector is detachably connected to the upper housing, the separator is inserted between the at least two connector contacts, interrupting the electrical connection therebetween. Open circuit is detected between the at least two contacts of the infusion line when the infusion set connector is connected to the upper housing. According to a second embodiment, the medical infusion system comprises an infusion pump and a connection panel configured to be detachably connected to the connector, which includes a sensing element for determining whether the connector is detachably connected to the connection panel. Infusion pump includes a housing, a data input keypad, a display and a microprocessor that comprises a preprogrammed primary filling sequence. Preprogrammed primary filling sequence is activated by the microprocessor when the sensor sends a signal to the microprocessor that the connection panel is detachably connected to the connector.
EFFECT: inventions prevent accidental or unintentional administration of a drug from a portable device for drug infusion during primary filling.
