FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a new process of the preparation of esters, which consists in the catalytic reductive esterification of carbonyl compounds by carboxylic acids under the action of carbon monoxide. Process of the preparation of carbonyl compound and carboxylic acid esters is carried out under the action of a reducing agent (carbon monoxide is used as the reducing agent) in the presence of the ruthenium catalyst and reduction is carried out in a polar solvent containing water at a pressure of 2–35 atm, preferably 30–35 atm, and temperature 115–185 °C, preferably 145–155 °C, the molar ratio of acid, carbonyl compound, catalyst and water is (2–10):1:(0.0015–0.005):(0.1–7.1), preferably 10:1:0.005:7. After removal of gaseous substances and chromatographic purification, the desired product is obtained in a yield of 42–90 %.
EFFECT: method makes it possible to obtain esters from readily available and inexpensive starting materials.
