FIELD: organic chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing amines by reductive amination of carbonyl compounds. The method involves reaction of a starting amine with a carbonyl compound in the presence of sodium hypophosphite monohydrate as a reducing agent at a molar ratio of carbonyl compound: starting amine: NaH2PO2⋅H2O in an amount of 1:(1.25–3.00):(0.5–2.00), at a temperature of 90–16°C in the absence of solvent.

EFFECT: effective, technologically advanced, economical and environmentally friendly method of the production of amines by reductive amination of carbonyl compounds through the use of commercially available, cheap, stable and environmentally friendly sodium hypophosphite monohydrate as a reducing agent.
