FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a process for producing strontium and barium hexaborides powders, including electrolysis of a molten salt containing a mixture of salt of the resulting hexaboride with a boron component. Electrolysis is carried out using a molybdenum cathode and a graphite anode. Method is characterized in that molten salt containing a mixture of strontium and sodium chlorides with 4–5 % boron trioxide and 5 % by weight of strontium oxide is used, or a molten salt containing a mixture of barium and sodium chlorides with 4–5 % boron trioxide and 5 % by weight of barium oxide, electrolysis is carried out at temperature range 800–850 °C with an initial cathode current pulse of 0.2 A/cm2 for 15 minutes, and then at a constant current density of 0.15 A/cm2, while in process of electrolysis concentration of boron trioxide, strontium oxide or barium is maintained.
EFFECT: use of the proposed method makes it possible to obtain desired products without using an inert atmosphere and without losses of boron raw materials.
