FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an electrochemical method of producing microdisperse powders of metal hexaborides of a lanthanide group. Method involves synthesis of lanthanide hexaborides from a chloride-containing melt containing boron ions and lanthanide ions. Melt of composition (CaCl2 – CaO) with additions of boron oxide B2O3 and oxide of obtained lanthanide Ln2O3 is used as chloride-containing melt. During electrolysis, the concentrations of B2O3 and Ln2O3 are kept constant in amounts which ensure the atomic ratio of boron to lanthanide B/Ln=6 with their total concentration in melt of 5–10 wt% of electrolyte weight. Synthesis is carried out in air in a temperature range of 800–850 °C at a cathodic current density of 0.3–0.5 A/cm2.
EFFECT: disclosed method enables to obtain powders of lanthanide hexaborides with output of up to 82 % electrolysis consumed while simplifying and cheapening the technology of obtaining and cost of the end product.
