FIELD: separation.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to foam control formulations for preventing or reducing foaming and the use of such formulations to prevent or reduce foaming in fluids, such as aqueous fluids and especially in applications at an oil field. Foam control formulation in the form of a micro-emulsion comprises: (a) 5 to 70% w/w of a main surfactant, wherein said surfactant has an HLB of from 1 to 12 and/or a cloud point from 20 to 70°C; (b) from 2 to 40% w/w of a water-insoluble organic liquid carrier comprising an oil and a viscosity modifier selected from dibasic acid esters, fatty acid esters and mixtures thereof; and (c) water.
EFFECT: technical result is stability and ease of use of the formulations, which are very effective defoamer and good anti-foaming agents.
