FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: use to study the structure of materials by small-angle neutron scattering. Essence of invention is that a standard calibrant, in form of a porous anodic alumina calibrant membrane having a two-dimensional structure with a third extended non-periodic measurement, is placed at the sample position in a small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) device and is set in relation to the neutron beam so that the pores of the calibrant membrane are parallel to the neutron beam direction. According to the position measurement and width of the Bragg peaks, a transverse length ltr of the coherent volume of the neutron beam is determined, then, by rotating the calibrant membrane by some angle about a vertical axis perpendicular to the neutron beam, additionally, as the intensity of the Bragg peaks depending on the angle of calibrant rotation along the width of the swing curve, longitudinal length llong of the coherent volume of the neutron beam is determined. Coherent volume of the neutron beam is calculated through its longitudinal llong and transverse ltr coherent lengths. Thickness of the calibrant membrane must be greater than the longitudinal length of the coherent volume of the neutron beam for any wavelengths.

EFFECT: increased accuracy of measurements is provided.
