FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical engineering, specifically to the production of especially pure submicron powders of an aluminium-magnesium spinel with a narrow particle size distribution for use in the technology of optically transparent ceramics. Method for obtaining powders of aluminium-magnesium spinel consists in the hydrolysis of chemically modified double magnesium-aluminum isopropylate with water, followed by calcination of the formed hydroxides. Prior to hydrolysis, the double magnesium-aluminium isopropylate is chemically modified with one or more of the following compounds: acetylacetone, ethyl acetoacetate, triethanolamine, wherein the molar ratio of the double magnesium-aluminium isopropylate to chemical modifiers ranges from 1:3 to 20:1. Said method enables to obtain especially pure powders of an aluminium-magnesium spinel with a bulk density of 0.3 to 1.5 g/cm3, specific surface area from 10 to 180 m2/g and an average particle diameter of 0.4 to 5 mcm.
EFFECT: method enables to obtain especially pure powders of aluminium-magnesium spinel.
