FIELD: machine building.

SUBSTANCE: there is provided a method and apparatus for desulphurising an exhaust gas recirculation flow of an internal combustion engine, which is on fresh air side (8) supplied to internal combustion engine (1), wherein ammonia is used for desulphurisation in exhaust gas recirculation flow (7''), wherein at least one exhaust gas partial flow (7, 17) is branched off from exhaust stream (2) of internal combustion engine (1). Exhaust gas partial stream (7) branched off from exhaust gas stream (2) is supplied with at least one ammonia-releasing reagent (12), and thus loaded exhaust gas partial stream (7') is partially supplied as return flow (7'') of exhaust gas to intake side (8) and partly as partial stream (9) for further treatment into the exhaust gas treatment system. Amount of exhaust gas recirculation flow supplied to intake side (8) and the amount of partial stream (9) supplied to the exhaust gas treatment system for further treatment by control and/or control device are set and/or varied depending on at least one operational parameter which is determined by the respective operational situation of internal combustion engine (1).
