SUBSTANCE: invention relates to drug delivery, and more particularly to the use of an intensifier to accelerate the penetration of a pharmacologically active agent through the skin of a human or animal. Transdermal pharmaceutical composition in the form of a gel or patch comprises vardenafil or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, pharmaceutically acceptable excipient, intensifier consisting of cocamidopropyl betaine, sodium lauroamphoacetate, quaternium-60, isostearamidopropyl morpholine lactate and dipropylene glycol, wherein the intensifier is able to accelerate the transdermal kinetics of absorption of vardenafil, and vardenafil and intensifier are present in the transdermal pharmaceutical composition in the form of a gel or patch at a ratio of 20:1 to 2:1 by weight.

EFFECT: method and improved pharmaceutical composition for accelerating the transdermal delivery of a pde-5 inhibitor are provided.
