FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a foundry and can be used in the continuous casting of aluminium-lithium alloys. At least two aluminium based alloys are obtained in separate furnaces. First alloy has composition A which is free from lithium as purposive alloying element. Second alloy has a composition B which comprises lithium as purposive alloying element. Alloys are transported each in their own trough from the furnaces to the casting station. First, the alloy of composition A is cast to ingot length L1 in the casting direction. After establishing continuous casting conditions, the casting of the alloy of composition A is stopped and the alloy of composition B is poured from the end surface of the cast alloy of composition A to length L2. Cast ingot is cut from its lower end to a length greater than or equal to cast length L1.
EFFECT: avoiding the use of salts when casting aluminium-lithium alloys.
