FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method involves charging portion of burden materials to part of tuyere height; laying magnesium pigs along tuyere perimeter and alloying elements into remaining free space; charging remaining part of burden materials; melting in gaseous medium in stepped heating mode; pouring in continuous crystallizer and cooling ingot with water in shielding medium. Method may be used in foundry, in particular, in production of magnesium and magnesium-lithium alloys. EFFECT: reduced power consumption, improved safety of process by eliminating creation of arc discharge, and reduced oxidizability of alloying elements. 6 cl, 2 tbl, 3 ex
