SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medicine. Surgical stapler comprises a tissue thickness compensator. Tissue thickness compensator is a material that is releasably attached by a fastening portion to a fastener cartridge and/or anvil. Fastening portion comprises a pressure-sensitive adhesive and can be fluid from the moment the layer is placed on the cartridge with fasteners until the layer is implanted into the patient's tissue.
EFFECT: fastening portion may comprise an adhesive multi-layer material comprising a base layer that includes a tissue thickness compensator, and an adhesive layer on at least a portion of the surface of the base layer that comprises a pressure sensitive adhesive.
