SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy. To prevent the appearance of brittle fractures occurring at the base of the welded rail seam, the rail thermal treatment device comprises a power source, electrically connected to the heating coil for induction heating of the heat affected zone of the weld joint "HAZ" part of the rail sole, and means for cooling, wherein the heating coil is facing the bottom surface of the rail foot portion and has an outer region length in the rail length direction of 1.2Lh or more, and in the rail width direction is equal to 1.1W or more, where Lh is the length of the zone of thermal influence of the welded joint "HAZ" of the part of the rail sole in the direction of the length of the rail, mm, W is the width of the rail sole, mm. Heating is carried out at a speed of 3 to 20 °C/s with the provision of heating the rail in position C located in the center of the weld at the bottom surface of the sole part and in the center of the rail in the width direction, to a temperature of from above 600 to 800 °C, and then cool said region of rail heating.
EFFECT: preventing of brittle fracture formation which arises in the sole of the welded rail seam.
