FIELD: hand irons.
SUBSTANCE: domestic appliance such as an iron including a steam generating unit for guiding steam into at least one steam outlet wherein the surface of the steam generating unit is at least partially covered with a surface layer comprising an antimicrobial agent. According to the present invention, the antimicrobial agent is released from the surface layer when the surface layer comprising the antimicrobial agent is in contact with the vapour. Antimicrobial agent can be an inorganic substance, preferably selected from the group consisting of silver, zinc, copper, selenium, platinum ions or a combination thereof.
EFFECT: in addition, the present invention provides a steam ironing apparatus and a method for manufacturing this apparatus.
