FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to metallurgy. Metal melt thermal insulation composition contains, in wt.%: silica-containing material 2.0–20.0; carbon containing material 1.0–20.0, and biochemical material 60.0–97.0. Biochemical material is selected from the group consisting of: diatomite, gaize or tripoli earth. As the silica-containing material micro-silica is used. As the carbon containing material the ultrafine carbonaceous material is used. Biochemical material is ground, granulated, dried at a temperature of 150–400 °C and annealed at a temperature of 700–1,100 °C. Cooled down biochemical material granules are mixed with the previously prepared mixture of micro-silica and ultrafine carbonaceous material. At that, on the biochemical material crumb the micro-silica and ultrafine carbon-containing material mixture coating is formed.
EFFECT: enabling elimination of the melt carbon penetration due to the powder composition preservation by the claimed composition, decrease in the lining working layer wear and decrease in the composition bulk density.
