FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the method for radiation cross-linking of polymer insulation of electrical cables and wires and to the device for its implementation. Method and device (the reactor with a "transparent" electrode) for radiation cross-linking of polymer insulation of electrical cables and wires with X-ray radiation of an electric gas barrier discharge (EGBD) belong to the field of radiation modification of polymers and can be used during the production of power cables, on-board aircraft wires (OAW), heat-resistant oil-immersed cables, pipes, heat-shrinkable tubular films, protective cable end caps, etc. Polymer insulation of cables and wires is irradiated with ionizing radiation from the EGBD in an inert gas medium with an activating additive in the amount of 0.1 % by volume of a powder of finely dispersed lead dioxide PbO2, the electrical gas barrier discharge that is volatile in plasma at the elevated temperature T = 100 °C and at the elevated pressure P=10 atm. Separate section of the gas reactor consists of an external "non-transparent" high-voltage electrode for EGBD radiation, made in the form of a solid steel pipe; from the internal "transparent" for radiation EGBD of a grounded electrode in the form of a steel pipe with openings or in the form of a steel mesh; from the inert gas filled with an activating additive in the amount of 0.1 vol. % of the powder of fine-dispersed lead dioxide PbO2, the gas discharge gap of the fixed thickness of 3 mm, in which X-ray radiation from the EGBD is formed; from the dielectric barrier in the form of a quartz glass tube with the wall thickness of 3 mm, which is adjacent to the external "non-transparent" EGBD radiation for a high-voltage electrode.

EFFECT: method and a device for radiation cross-linking are provided.
